Armenian Friends in Van - Vancouver Hiking Fundraiser

Armenian Friends in Van

The vibrant Armenian community of Vancouver, B.C (Canada) recently showcased its spirit of unity and commitment to environmental sustainability with a successful hiking fundraiser in support of Armenia Tree Project (ATP), celebrating its 30th anniversary. The hiking fundraiser "Take A Hike! Plant a Tree!", was organized by Armenian Friends in Van, a non-partisan community group of young professionals that host social events, lead humanitarian advocacy efforts, and fundraise for Armenian causes. You can learn more about their work here: https://www.instagram.com/armenianfriendsvancity/

The hike, organized by Nyiri Karakas and Nareh Dersahakian, brought together friends and families for a day of camaraderie in the North Shore mountains. Those who could not make the hike contributed to the fundraising campaign with generous donations. The organizers expressed pride in the efforts of the small but passionate community, stating, "we’re really proud of what we achieved with such a small community group - we raised CAD $2,528.96!" This impressive amount reflects the collective effort and determination of participants, demonstrating that even a modest group can make a significant impact.

The funds raised will support the Armenia Tree Project's mission of reforestation and community development in Armenia, furthering the organization's vital work in restoring the country's natural landscapes and promoting sustainable practices. The Vancouver Armenian community's contribution is a testament to their commitment to environmental stewardship and support for their homeland.

As the community looks ahead, initiatives like this fundraiser not only provide necessary resources for important causes but also strengthen bonds among members, fostering a sense of shared purpose. For many participants, the hike was more than just a fundraising event; it was an opportunity to connect with their heritage, celebrate their culture, and contribute to a brighter future for Armenia.

As the Armenia Tree Project continues its mission, the Vancouver Armenian community stands proud, ready to support and inspire future generations through their ongoing efforts.
