Celebrating 30 Years of Service: Samvel Ghandilyan
On September 1, 2025, Armenia Tree Project proudly celebrates three decades of service by Samvel Ghandilyan, one of our most dedicated team members.
Samvel first joined ATP as a volunteer in August 1995 and officially became part of the team on September 1, 1995, just one year after ATP’s founding. From the very beginning, he was instrumental in shaping ATP’s work. He played a central role in establishing our first nursery in Karin in early 1996, followed by Khachpar in 1999, and later in Chiva in 2015. Under his leadership, these nurseries became centers of innovation, introducing practices that were new to Armenia at the time, including drip irrigation, container planting, sunken cold frames and greenhouse systems. Thanks to Samvel’s vision, many of these techniques are now cornerstones of ATP’s work.
Samvel’s impact extends well beyond nurseries. In 2004, he helped launch ATP’s Environmental Educational program, drafting the first practicum program for students from Yerevan State University, the Agricultural Academy, and other universities. Since then, thousands of young people have taken part in trainings, fieldwork, and internships under his guidance. Many still credit him as the mentor who sparked their lifelong passion for nature.
He has also represented ATP on the international stage, taking part in a 30-day training on irrigation and fertilization in Israel, presenting ATP’s work in Lebanon, and taking part in exchange programs in Finland and the United States, where he shared Armenia’s experience in reforestation and conservation with international partners. Today, as a senior consultant, Samvel continues to advise on nursery operations and innovation while also leading ATP’sGreen Tours. Visitors from Armenia and abroad regularly leave inspired by his knowledge, warmth, and deep commitment.
For Samvel, this journey has always been more than a career. As he reflects:
“For me, these 30 years have been more than work. They have been a mission. I’ve seen barren hills turn green, and I’ve seen children grow into adults who care about Armenia’s environment. That is the most rewarding part of my journey with ATP.” - Samvel Ghandilyan
Samvel’s legacy is written in every sapling planted, every child inspired, and every hillside turned green. We are profoundly grateful for his service, and we look forward to many more years of learning and growing together.
