By now you may have seen us mentioned on the CONAN show (click here to see clip: www.tinyurl.com/atpshoutout). It was a huge honor and great fun to be associated with Conan O'Brien. We think it was the best shout-out ever!
ArmComedy were his special guests, and the TV appearance was planned around their benefit shows in Boston, Los Angeles and San Francisco last month. All three shows were sold out. It was another example of ATP trying new things and having fun in the process. We made lots of new friends, and we hope it will lead to more and more support for our green mission.
Please consider a gift right now, so that we may continue to promote tree planting and environmental education, which is happening in Armenia and the diaspora through our award winning Building Bridges youth education program.
And speaking of Building Bridges, the good news just keeps rolling in. On World Environment Day, the Energy Globe Award announced that our Building Bridges education program was selected as the national winner for Armenia. We're so proud of the recognition, but even more grateful that your support makes this award-winning work possible.
Let me tell you more about what we are doing on the ground in Armenia. This spring we planted another 87,724 trees at 113 different sites!
Our Forestry team planted 64,107 trees at three sites in the northern region of Lori. Meanwhile, our Community Tree Planting department planted 23,617 at 110 sites in every region including Artsakh.
The spring plantings included another 3,456 fruit trees! We're so proud of this work, and you should be too as a member of our growing community of supporters.
With these trees in the ground, the grand total of trees we've planted since 1994 is 5,304,224! That's 5,304,224 expressions of hope in Armenia's future. It’s something we can all be proud of, and it will deliver benefits locally and globally for many years to come.
In the area of environmental education, we hosted our first teacher trainings in Vayots Dzor this spring. As I mentioned last fall, we broke ground on our fourth nursery in Chiva, and this training is a step in introducing our "Plant an Idea, Plant a Tree" teacher’s manual to schools in the southern regions.
We also hosted students from several diasporan schools in Armenia already this year, including the Hovnanian School, St. Stephen's Armenian Elementary School, AGBU Vatche and Tamar Manoukian High School and AGBU Manoogian Demirjian School. We introduced them to peers from local schools, and after an environmental lesson and a little time getting to know each other, the students planted trees together. It’s an important part of our work that makes it sustainable, long-lasting, and most meaningful for the people connected with ATP and Armenia.
Our summer will be busy with several youth eco-camps, with monitoring the more than 1,000 sites where we have planted trees, and caring for the young tree seedlings in our four nurseries.
By now you've probably heard our "Get Rooted" slogan. It means many things to many people. From planting a tree with us in Armenia, sponsoring a few trees via our website, or sharing our news among your network, there are many ways to get rooted with ATP. The monthly get rooted tours of our nursery in Karin Village have really taken off, and most of them are filled to capacity. If you are planning a trip to Armenia, I hope you will look us up and join one of the tours.
This fall, our Forestry and CTP teams plan to plant another 150,000 trees, so there's lots to be done in terms of site selection, training of local tree planters, and preparing sites with fencing and irrigation to make sure the trees will have a strong survival rate.
Our certificate program is hugely popular, with more than half of our supporters sponsoring trees on occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, or in lieu of flowers. In appreciation of this high level of interest, we've designed a new certificate especially for this summer appeal. The artwork is from an authentic Armenian manuscript from the 17th century. It was photographed at a monastery in New Julfa, which is in the Armenian quarter of Isfahan, by Hawk Khatcherian for one of his book projects. Hawk generously provided the artwork, and we hope you will enjoy it.
If you would like to present one of these certificates as a gift, please click on our donate link and fill out the form with your donation. The certificates are personalized and can be mailed to you or to the recipient of your gift. This is a unique design tied to our appeal, and these certificates will be available for a limited time. Please take advantage of this creative and thoughtful way of giving back to friends, to family, and to the planet.
What's coming up in the near future? We're really looking forward to our summer fruit harvest. We've planted 204,163 fruit trees since 1994, and those trees have produced a harvest of more than five million pounds!
Going green and sustainability have become popular buzzwords and a way of life for many of us. By supporting ATP, you are riding the wave of environmentalism that respects life on our planet today, and into the future.
