Why Are Trees So Important?

Trees are really important in Armenia because they:

produce something we all need to breathe: oxygen!

clean the air.
protect us from strong winds.

block out noise pollution.

grow food for people and animals.

provide shade. They are like nature's air conditioners!

make our yards and communities beautiful.

give people jobs growing and replanting trees.

What will happen if we continue cutting too many trees in Armenia?

EROSION:
When it rains, tree roots soak up the water and keep the dirt in place. When there are no trees, the dirt washes away and makes the land wobbly. This is called erosion. In Armenia's hilly areas, erosion causes landslides and flooding!

EXTINCTION: Sometimes animals naturally disappear from the earth. But other times, this happens because of humans. If we don't save the trees, animals in Armenia like the Bezoar Goat, the Eastern Imperial Eagle, the Caucasian Leopard, and the Armenian Mountain Viper won't have homes or food and could become extinct.

DESERT: Some experts believe that if trees keep getting cut down at the rate they are now, Armenia will be like a desert in 20 years.
