Volunteer Opportunities at ATP

ATP Division: Reforestation and Community Development
Supervisor: RCD Program Manager

REFORESTATION AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Primary Role: Volunteer is responsible for increasing the effectiveness of work being accomplished, as well as for increasing public awareness of environmental issues, working closely with the population of remote villages in the Getik River Valley and elsewhere. Involvement in ATP initiatives with the goal of reducing poverty and improving the ecological and economic situation.

The Volunteer’s responsibilities include the following:

  • Keep informed about current ATP activities.
  • Assist Program Manager and staff during trips to Gegharkounik Marz--Getik Valley villages as well as Lori Marz, where ATP has its large-scale reforestation program--to carry out assignments given to him/her by the manager.
  • Participate in events and educational training sessions organized by department.
  • Prepare and present education material in agriculture, the environment, and related subjects to Youth Club members and village residents.
  • Assist in establishment and development of Youth Clubs in Gegharkounik Marz (villages) and in other regions where program implements projects.
  • Assist staff with household surveys and participate in the establishment of three new school orchards in the Getik River Valley.
  • Weekly trips with staff to all sites in various towns and villages where ATP implements programs.
  • Assist department in reporting its activities and in doing translations from Armenian to English if possible.
  • Establish positive relations with the village population by communicating and interacting with residents.
  • Improve knowledge of Armenian language, culture, environment, economic situation, and living conditions of Armenians (particularly in remote villages and towns).
  • Assist Program Manager in research and funding possibilities.
  • Assist other ATP program managers in Environmental Education programs.

Candidate should be able to: solve problems, communicate well with a variety of groups and individuals, provide written and oral reports to supervisor as needed and provide weekly reports of the accomplished assignments, and represent ATP professionally to the local/international community, guests, and partners.
